Meet Numi - Part I
There once was a young woman named Numi. She was a gullible and bright soul who went through life on a pink cloud. Her inner light was so strong that the big bad world didn’t seem to harm her. As soon as she woke up, she enjoyed life. Every day she would open her eyes, feeling full of excitement. She couldn’t wait to see what life had in store for her that day.
Upon rising, she happily opened her closet which was an explosion of bright and cheerful colours and prints. Choosing which vibrant prints she would wear that day was her morning meditation. A normal human being would shout and scream by the look for her combo’s but to Numi, it was pure joy and satisfaction. After all, life is too short to dress boringly.
Armed with her screaming prints, she would step foot outside to wander through the streets. Walking towards one of her favourite coffee bars, she would greet every sour face with the biggest and most genuine smile. Her eyes loved taking all the world in and every time she saw a beautiful building, person, animal or piece of clothing, she would feel grateful and blessed to be alive.
After receiving her drink, anything but real coffee, she would sit down and journal about her latest crush. A whirlwind of butterflies made words stream out of her pen. Numi’s crush, probably one of the greatest people alive, could not have been more perfect to her than any person she had ever met. She fantasized about their life together. She imagined, with great pleasure and joy, how her life would change now that they connected. She wrote about the places they would travel to and about the new activities she was going to experience while entering the world of her crush. She didn’t see any harm in mutating into the perfect being for her new partner in life. For she was one big pile of love and it was the best feeling ever!
Of course, for many of her crushes, taking in all of Numi was too much. Her excitement about getting to know every little thing about her crush may have come across a bit obsessive. But knowing Numi, her head was high up in the clouds, busy creating her fantasies. Without a single toe on the ground, she couldn’t see reality. So time upon time, she got disappointed. Why did her crush not feel the exact same way? Why couldn’t they feel the exact same excitement to also get to know her?
Whenever she got disappointed, Numi turned to the one thing that made her forget about her negative feelings. She retrieved in her own little palace. A place where she got creative and dealt with those emotions in a most healthy way. She would open the closet of her atelier and pull out the brightest and most colorful fabric that she had. Envisioning a piece that would most definitely attract her soulmate, she drew a pattern, cut the fabric and sew a new garment that would fit right into her closet of mixed emotions. After hours and hours of work, she felt relieved and free from all the disappointment. While crafting this piece, she tapped into an inner wisdom and saw the bigger picture. She made peace with the experience of having this crush and saw which lessons there were to learn.
At night she fell asleep knowing that everything happens for a reason. And the thought of waking up the next day to put together a new outfit with her freshly created garment made her forget about all her misery.
With love,
Numi
